  • Basic Functions & Responsibilities

    Fox Valley Technical College is establishing a pool of qualified candidates to teach emergency medical services (EMS) training. This position is responsible for leading initial and refresher training courses at FVTC facilities and other locations throughout the district. Duties include class preparation, teaching, student management and course logistics.

    Essential Job Functions/Secondary Job Functions

    1. Teach assigned EMS classes.
    2. Prepare class outlines, course schedule, teaching materials, and practical skill sessions at the level credentialed to teach.
    3. Manage student learning and facilitate recording and disseminating student progress.
    4. Ensure a safe learning environment.
    5. Operate EMS equipment and apparatus.
    6. Create a classroom environment that is respectful of diversity and demonstrates a commitment to multiculturalism.
    7. Assist in the enforcement of college regulations and report student conduct violations.
    8. Remain current with the scope of practice and industry standards and trends for the level credentialed to teach.
    9. Remain current with the Wisconsin EMS Standards & Procedures of Practical Skills Manual.

    Qualifications, Training and Experience

    1. Bachelor’s Degree in EMS or in related and appropriate field. (Based on experience and expertise, an individual with an Associate Degree or equivalent and willingness to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree within specific timeframe may be considered), and
    2. Minimum of two years of occupational experience a paramedic or EMT or in the field of the program or programs being taught, of which at least one year shall be within the last five years; Four years of occupational experience preferred. (One year of related occupational experience may be waived with at least two years of post−secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within the last five years), or
    3. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable knowledge may be acquired.
    4. National/Wisconsin State Licensed Paramedic or EMT, AEMT license.
    5. Possess or be eligible for a WI EMS Instructor II license.
    6. Wisconsin DHS/WTCSB Certified to teach Paramedic, Intermediate, Emergency Medical Technician, and Emergency Medical Responder.
    7. Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality education programs, including development of relevant curriculum.
    8. Upon hire, must maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation, if applicable.

    15. Current knowledge of the role of the paramedic, EMT and first responder.
    16. Ability to maintain positive working relationships with a variety of ambulance, hospital and related agencies and personnel.
    17. Ability to update instructional methods and materials and apply research studies in classroom, lab and clinical settings.

    Adjunct instructors are hired on a per course basis. The average total hours for an adjunct instructor range from approximately 3 hours per week to no more than 8 hours per week. Hours vary and can include both day and evening classes. Courses are taught in classroom, lab, or clinical settings.
