Basic Functions & Responsibilities

This position provides supervision and responsible care, development, guidance and of the children involved in routine program activities, learning and play activities and small groups. Provides supervision to assistant teachers and students, as well as collaboration with other program staff.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Plan, develop, implement, and administer curriculum and daily activities for the developmental level of the children in order to provide experiences which will promote self-esteem and positive self-image, social interaction, self-expression and communication skills, creative expression, large and small muscle development, intellectual growth, and literacy.
  2. Adequately supervise the children and respond appropriately to ensure the safety and well-being of each child.
  3. Demonstrate appropriate child guidance to positively enhance the behaviors and development of the children in a way that is free from actions that are psychologically, emotionally or physically painful, discomforting, dangerous or potentially injurious.
  4. Continually monitor and evaluate the progress and behaviors of each child and respond as applicable.
  5. Inform parents of the children’s activities, progress, behaviors and incidents via parent conferences, workshops, and daily reports.
  6. Provide "on-the-job” experience and mentorship to Early Childhood Education Program students by proctoring, assisting, and demonstrating techniques used with children.
  7. Monitor, assist, review, and evaluate the work of assigned Early Childhood Education Program students in cooperation with instructional staff.
  8. Attend staff meetings, training sessions, workshops, and conferences
  9. Supervise maintenance of classroom and learning materials.

Secondary Job Functions

  1. Assist Menasha Even Start Family Literacy staff with administrative support and planning and implementing workshops, fieldtrips, and events.
  2. Work with Menasha Even Start Family Literacy staff to determine supplies and equipment needed in the classroom.
  3. Monitor condition of supplies and equipment, and make repairs or replacements as applicable.
  4. Regularly perform general light housekeeping duties to provide a safe, healthy and productive learning environment for the children including maintaining areas in order, dusting, and learning materials and surfaces.

Qualifications, Training and Experience

 

  1. Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred, AND
  2. Two years of related work experience.
  3. Satisfactory background check as required by the Wisconsin Administrative Code for Child Care Center Licensing.
  4. Basic skills in Microsoft Word and Excel is required.

  12. Dependable, punctual, and commitment to following through on tasks.
  13. Flexibility in work schedule is required, to include occasional evenings. Follows MJSD school calendar.
  14. Good working knowledge of methods utilized in providing quality child care, including theory and procedures.

Casual employees are hired and scheduled on an as needed basis. The total hours for a casual employee range from approximately 3 hours per week to no more than 11 hours per week. Hours vary and can include both day and evening hours.
