Basic Functions & Responsibilities

This position works directly with children in the classroom under the supervision of the teacher. Employee assists the teacher in routine program activities, conducts learning and play activities with children in small groups, and performs other duties as assigned.  Collaborates with other program staff.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Assists the teacher in the classroom as directed. Distributes, arranges, and maintains teaching materials and equipment.
  2. Provides care and protection for assigned children, and assists the teacher in carrying out the daily program designed to meet the physical and developmental needs of group of children.
  3. Supervises children’s play activities by participating with children in group games, enforcing safety rules, and encouraging children to develop positive social relationships with each other.
  4. Works with the teacher to develop the potentialities of individual children. Bring to the attention of the teacher special problems in adjustment, learning, social interacting, or physical functioning of individual children.
  5. Assists the children with routine activities such as naps, meals, bathroom, and dressing.
  6. Assists the teacher with arranging the environment and prepares supplies for activities.
  7. Attends staff meetings, training sessions, workshops, and conferences.
  8. Responsible for office/clerical duties, end-of-day closing, and other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Secondary Job Functions

  1. Assists with planning and implementing workshops, fieldtrips and other events.
  2. Performs general light housekeeping duties to provide a safe, healthy and productive learning environment for students including maintaining areas in order, dusting, and cleaning learning materials and surfaces.
  3. Fills in as Lead Teacher during Lead Teacher absences.

Qualifications, Training and Experience

 

  1. High school Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Associate Degree in Early Childhood preferred.
  3. One year of related work experience.
  4. Satisfactory background check as required by the Wisconsin Administrative Code for Child Care Center Licensing.

  5. Basic skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.

  16. Good working knowledge of methods utilized in providing quality care, including theory and procedures.

Casual employees are hired and scheduled on an as needed basis. The total hours for a casual employee range from approximately 3 hours per week to no more than 11 hours per week. Hours vary and can include both day and evening hours.
