  • Basic Functions & Responsibilities

    FVTC is collecting a pool of applicants to teach Therapeutic Massage. This position is responsible for the delivery of instruction and facilitation of student learning, and the on-going learning strategies which meet the needs of students and employers.             

    Essential Job Functions/Secondary Job Functions

    1. Facilitation of Learning. Plan, prepare and deliver instruction and facilitate the learning of students in associate degree, technical diploma, basic education, continuing education, and/or business and industry training programs. Assess the learning outcomes of students at the unit, course, and program level.
    2. Classroom Management. Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/participant evaluation. 
    3. Interpersonal/Team Skills. Participate in activities of the instructional team, including planning, development, scheduling, and budgeting as a cooperative and professional team player.
    4. Student Support and Guidance. Advise and support students as a mentor and role model in the achievement of their learning and career goals. 
    5. (If applicable) Curriculum Development. Develop, revise, and continually update curriculum and instructional materials which are competency-based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with the college policy on level of required documentation. 

    Qualifications, Training and Experience

    1. State and national certifications or licensure as a Massage Therapist.
    2. Bachelor Degree in a health related field or in related and appropriate field. (Based on experience and expertise, an individual with an Associate Degree or equivalent and willingness to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree within specific timeframe may be considered.)
    3. Minimum of two years of occupational experience as a massage therapist and educator or in the field of the program or programs being taught, of which at least one year shall be within the last five years; Four years of occupational experience preferred. (One year of related occupational experience may be waived with at least two years of post−secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within the last five years.)
    4. Understanding of the role of the massage therapist as a part of the health care delivery team.
    5. Current knowledge of wellness, nutrition, medical terminology, basic human anatomy and physiology, and human disease processes and treatment.
    6. Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality education programs, including development of relevant curriculum.
    7. Upon hire, must maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation, if applicable.

    1. Current knowledge of the role of the multiple members of the health care delivery team.
    2. Ability to teach effectively utilizing a variety of instructional methodologies including classroom, lab and online.
    3. Ability to support and work within a team environment.
    4. Ability to update instructional methods and materials and coordinate multiple classes and courses.
    5. Promotes and model professionalism to students, staff an professionals in the field.
    6. Ability to work with diverse student, staff, and community populations.
    7. Flexibility in schedule, including availability for evening and weekend assignments.
    8. Demonstrates ability for written and oral communication with students, staff, employers and other external entities. Ability to communicate effectively and to maintain positive working relationships with a variety of environments and personnel.
    9. Proficiency in computer use and applications which support teaching and learning. Knowledge of computer technology as it applies to the fields of health, nursing and education.
    10. Highly motivated with strong interest in contributing to the success of students and the college.
    11. Ability to express sensitivity and empathy to the individual needs of students.
    12. Ability to develop course materials and assessments of student learning.
    13. Demonstrate ethical conduct while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in all aspects of the work environment.

    Adjunct instructors are hired on a per course basis. The total hours for an adjunct instructor range from approximately 3 hours per week to no more than 8 hours per week. Hours vary and can include both day and evening classes. Courses are taught in both a general lab setting and a classroom setting.
