Basic Functions & Responsibilities

Fox Valley Technical College is establishing a pool of qualified candidates to teach Lean Principles in both manufacturing and non-manufacturing environments including topics of flow, scheduling, set-up reduction, 5S, Level Loading, TPM, etc. Ability to facilitate and/or provide Sensei support for Value Stream Mapping and Kaizen activities is also considered. This position is responsible for the delivery of instruction and facilitation of student learning as well helping businesses to reach organizational goals as it relates to lean implementation. On-going development of curriculum and learning strategies which meet the needs of students and employers is also required. 

Essential Job Functions/Secondary Job Functions

  1. Facilitation of Learning. Plan, prepare and deliver instruction and facilitate the learning of students in associate degree, technical diploma, basic education, continuing education, and/or business and industry training programs. Assess the learning outcomes of students at the unit, course, and program level.
  2. Classroom Management. Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/participant evaluation.
  3. Interpersonal/Team Skills. Participate in activities of the instructional team, including planning, development, scheduling, and budgeting as a cooperative and professional team player.
  4. Student Support and Guidance. Advise and support students as a mentor and role model in the achievement of their learning and career goals.
  5. (If applicable) Curriculum Development. Develop, revise, and continually update curriculum and instructional materials which are competency-based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with the college policy on level of required documentation.

Qualifications, Training and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business or an appropriate area; Master’s Degree preferred. (Based on experience and expertise, an individual with an Associate Degree or equivalent and willingness to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree within specific timeframe may be considered.)
  2. Minimum of two years of occupational experience in the field of the program or programs being taught, of which at least one year shall be within the last five years; Four years of occupational experience preferred.  (One year of related occupational experience may be waived with at least two years of post−secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within the last five years.)Experience in business and industry and direct working knowledge of state-of-the-art applications of lean enterprise management (service or manufacturing) and/or Six Sigma.
  3. Experience in the implementation of a Lean Enterprise Management and/or Six Sigma.
  4. Lean Certification and/or Blackbelt Designations preferred.
  5. Teaching or training experience is desirable.
  6. Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality education programs, including development of relevant curriculum.
  7. Upon hire, must maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation, if applicable.

  11. Ability to teach effectively utilizing a variety of instructional methodologies including lecture, lab work, hands on instruction, and other instructional methods. 
  12. Proficiency in computer use and applications which support teaching and learning. 
  13. Highly motivated with strong interest in contributing to the success of the students and the college. 
  14. Ability to express sensitivity and empathy to the individual needs of students. 
  15. Understanding and successful use of learning technology, both on-line and as a tool for distance education. 
  16. Ability to develop course materials and assessments of student learning. 
  17. Promotes an educational philosophy which places the primary emphasis on student learning in the design, delivery, and evaluation of courses. 
  18. Accepts responsibility for professional and personal growth. 
  19. Models a commitment to the mission, purposes, and values of the college.

Adjunct instructors are hired on a per course basis. The total hours for an adjunct instructor range from approximately 3 hours per week to no more than 8 hours per week. Hours vary and can include both day and evening classes. Courses are taught in both a general lab setting and a classroom setting.
