  • Basic Functions & Responsibilities

    Fox Valley Technical College is establishing a pool of qualified candidates to teach Technical and Business mathematics. Technical Mathematics involves such topics as solving linear, quadratic and rational equations; computational geometry; trigonometry; exponential and logarithmic functions; and trigonometric functions. Business Mathematics applies math concepts to the purchasing/buying process, the selling process and incorporates basic statistics.

    Essential Job Functions/Secondary Job Functions

    1. Facilitation of Learning. Plan, prepare and deliver instruction and facilitate the learning of students in associate degree, technical diploma, basic education, continuing education, and/or business and industry training programs. Assess the learning outcomes of students at the unit, course, and program level. 
    2. Classroom Management. Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/participant evaluation. 
    3. Interpersonal/Team Skills. Participate in activities of the instructional team, including planning, development, scheduling, and budgeting as a cooperative and professional team player. 
    4. Student Support and Guidance. Advise and support students as a mentor and role model in the achievement of their learning and career goals. 
    5. (If applicable) Curriculum Development. Develop, revise, and continually update curriculum and instructional materials which are competency-based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with the college policy on level of required documentation.

    Qualifications, Training and Experience

    1. A Masters Degree with at least eighteen graduate semester credits drawn from the Mathematics department, including eight credits of calculus, OR, a major in Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science and eight credits of calculus; OR tested experience per Higher Learning Commission guidelines. 
    2. A minimum of one year of work experience outside of education is required.
    3. Previous teaching experience is desirable.  
    4. Upon hire, must maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation, if applicable.

    Adjunct instructors are hired on a per course basis. The total hours for an adjunct instructor range from approximately 3 hours per week to no more than 8 hours per week. Hours vary and can include both day, evening, and weekend classes. Courses are taught in traditional classroom and alternative delivery formats.
